SNO-STREAKERS

TRAIL REPORTS

3-3-10 The lakes have very quickly become unsafe. The sun is weakening and melting it at a very quick rate because the ice is dark and not snow covered. The trails have little to no snow cover - Sorry the news is not better.
2-28-10 We received a notice that a portion of the trail in New Hampton in the area of Drake Road & Sinclair Hill Road has been posted as “No Trespassing” and snowmobiles will no longer be allowed on this property. Please be aware of this in the future.

Important - The RR Tracks (corridor 8) will be closing 3/15/10. We will need to remove the bridge decks on Sunday the 14th. If you can help out, please meet at the Winona Trestle at 8:00 AM on the 14th. If you have any questions, please call Todd at 279-4715 or e-mail him at 1toddco@msn.com.
2-11-10 Still no snow for us - I'm thinking about taking my sled to DC
1-28-10 About two inches of light snow today. Windy conditions to follow will most likely blow the light snow off the trails and lakes enough that it won't help track slides or liquid cooled radiators. Cold temps for the weekend.
1-26-10 We had a full day of warm temps. and pouring rain. We lost a lot of our snow cover. The trails are ice and mud and are not groomable. We need more snow badly. The lakes are glaze ice - little to no snow.

Trail Masters update:

Went out in the groomer today, Tracks to Ashland, Primary Trail 300 to Meredth Woods, Corridor 15 to Center Harbor, Windsong loop to Pickeral pond. Still some water bars open, trails good out in the open, ok in the woods. Tracks in pretty good shape though some of the rails are showing.

The reroute of Corridor 15 will be ready for the groomer Sat afternoon, Norman and I will take a run up then.

As far as the 15 reroute, follow the signs to the end of Philbrook ave and proceed across Plymouth St. From there you drop down around the corner and cross RT 3
into the park. WE NEED TO STRESS THAT A 10 MPH SPEED LIMIT IS MANDATORY IN THESE AREA'S!!!!!!! PLEASE STAY OFF THE SIDEWALKS.... WE HAVE MADE PROVISIONS FOR JUST THAT PURPOSE... You will not win the battle in oncomming traffic, PEDESTRIAN'S USE THE SIDWALK TO ACCESS THE COMMUNITY CENTER... we are about out of options in this area so lets make sure we all do whats right. The town has been kind enough to allow us this access.

1-21-10 We got a few inches of powder this week. The groomers have been out working. It is still a bit thin.
1-18-10 We got six inches of snowman snow yesterday and last night. The rails on the tracks are still visible in some spots but this snow was a big help. The groomers were out today packing in the new snow and the riding was good. We still need a bit more snow but things are looking up.
1-10-10 I scouted around on an old sled today. We have a thin frozen base (not enough to groom yet). The swamps and shallow waters are frozen but the larger bodies of water are still very inconsistant in thickness and therefore unsafe. We have cold temps in the forecast but no snow.
1-4-10 The weekend storm was dissappointing in the Lakes Region. We only got about three to four inches of wind blown light snow. The rails are still exposed on the tracks. Water bars are still open.
12-29-09

A couple of days of warm temps and rain followed by two inches of "snowman" snow. Yesterday a drop in temps and three inches of powder. Cold temps and high winds today. Water temps continue to drop but ice (where it exists) is very inconsistant and therefore - unsafe. Please come help put out the bridge covers this Sunday. No special skills required - just whatever help you can muster. Please come to the Winona Rd. railroad trestle @ 8AM this Sunday to show your support for the local snowmobile community.

12-24-09

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!

The railroad tracks have closed, so we need to get the bridges out. Due to the bad weather coming this weekend, we will plan on putting the bridge decks out on Sunday January 3rd. If you can help out, please meet at the Winona Trestle bridge at 8:00 am. If you have any tools that would be useful, please bring them. If you have any questions, please call Todd at 279-4715.

12-17-09 Bitter cold temps and high winds. The wind has kept ice from forming but the cold temps and wave action have dropped local water temps about five degrees at the surface in two days. Winni water temps are at 37.6 at two feet and 37.1 at ten feet. This should help ice to form once the winds die down. We have about four inches of frozen snow base. Trails are not open yet.
12-14-09 We have gotten about eight inches of snow. warm temps today and tomorrow will take that down to about 4 or 5 inches but cold temps the rest of the week should freeze in this base. The lakes are open water with Winni temps @ 40 degrees at 10 feet and 42 at 2 feet. Shallow ponds are skimming over but nothing is safe yet. Grooming will begin when the tracks open - snow permitting.
DECEMBER 2009 THE TRAIL CREWS HAVE BEEN VERY BUSY! Work continues - meeting Sunday's at McDonald's 8AM
Fall 2009

We began trail work Sundays in September and will be continuing it every Sunday until we are done.  If you can help us out any Sunday (or many!), we would appreciate any help you can give us.  Please meet at the Meredith McDonald’s at 8:00 AM.  If you have any appropriate tools, such as chain saws, hatchets, etc., please bring them along.  It would be great to see some new faces helping out this year.  Last year, we had a very good group of people helping out with several new people joining us.  Remember, we are working on the trails that YOU enjoy riding on.  PLEASE come out and help at least once.  We all like to ride and should be willing to help make the trails the best they can be.  We have a couple of bigger projects to do to enable our groomer and drag to get through.  We have been approved for some grant money for some fall projects.

Remember you can still E-Mail me with any reports you have about trail conditions or hazards that our members should know about at: snostreaker@yahoo.com
